Thumbelina
A kindly older woman who longs for a child plants a strange flower-seed; from its blossom comes a tiny girl no bigger than a thumb, whom she calls Thumbelina. Carried off from her cradle by a toad who wants her for his son, Thumbelina escapes and travels the countryside with the help of small creatures — a kind fish who frees her from the lily pad, a friendly butterfly, a sympathetic field-mouse, a wounded swallow she nurses back to health, and finally the swallow who carries her south to a warm land of flowers where she meets a community of tiny flower-folk like herself.
