Issun-bōshi: The One-Inch Boy

An elderly couple prays for a child and is blessed with a tiny boy no bigger than a thumb. Issun-bōshi, the One-Inch Boy, sets off for the capital to seek his fortune. He eventually serves a noble household, defeats two fearsome Oni, and uses a magic mallet to grow to full height.
